Admissions Parents who are considering sending their children to the Steiner Academy are encouraged to come to open events and/or arrange a generalvisit to find out about the education before applying via the Local Authority for school age children, or direct to the Steiner Academy for 3 year olds. (N.B. Entry at 3 does not guarantee a ‘school’ place). Arrangements for admission to rising 4 year olds The admission arrangements for rising 4 year olds to the first year of kindergarten at the Steiner Academy Hereford are as follows: a) The Steiner Academy Hereford has 20 places for rising 4 year olds and therefore will admit 20 children in this age group each year if sufficient applications are received. b) A rising 4 year old is defined as a child who will turn 4 during the first year in kindergarten up to 31 August. Process of application An application form for a place in the first year of kindergarten is available from the Admissions Officer at the school. The significant stages in the admissions process are as follows:
Procedures where the Steiner Academy Hereford is oversubscribed Where the number of applications for a place in the first year of kindergarten is greater than 20, applications will be given priority in line with the school's over-subscription criteria as follows: a) those who have siblings who are currently attending the school and who will continue to do so two years after the date of admission; b) on the basis of closest proximity to the school, proximity for this purpose being the distance which is the shortest walking route from the child's home to the school that the Steiner Academy Hereford considers practical and safe. Waiting list The Steiner Academy Hereford will operate a waiting list if the first year of kindergarten is over-subscribed and it will be open to any parent to ask for his or her child's name to be placed on the waiting list, following an unsuccessful application. Children's position on the waiting list will be determined solely in accordance with the oversubscription criteria and when a place becomes vacant in the first year of kindergarten it will be allocated in accordance with the oversubscription criteria. (March 2010) Pastoral care, behaviour and expectations Care of pupils’ well-being and development is central to the ethos of our Academy. Kindergarten teachers, class teachers and class guardians work to meet and support the development of each pupil while encouraging and challenging them to meet their potential at all levels. Everyone is called upon to show respect for each other. Dress Code The Steiner Academy has a dress code rather than a uniform; this requires pupils to come to schoolsuitably dressed to support their health and well-being, with sensible shoes and hairstyles, little or no jewellery or make-up and appropriate kit for special activities. |
