THE COURSE

Our main aim is to help students develop their conversational and written English.  The experience of daily life in Britain will enable students to gain an understanding of British society, its institutions and traditions, with topics including the environment and sustainability included in the course.

Educational Programme
A major part of the educational programme is arranged around local visits, offering the opportunity to practise the patterns learned in the classroom.
Particular importance is placed on developing vocabulary, phraseology, pronunciation and language confidence through the use of situational dialogues and role play.
Grammar exercises and written work support oral skills.

A typical day:
9.30 – 10.15  Culture, customs and language
10.15 – 10.35  Break
10.35 – 11.20  Grammar exercises and written work
11.25 – 12.15  Visit preparation or follow-up
12.15 – 13.00  Lunch break
14.00 – 17.00  Activities

Social Activities
Whilst giving students the opportunity to use their English in real-life situations, the social programme includes a wide range of activities for which the region is famous. In previous years the afternoon activities have included; cycling, canoeing, walking, theatre, city visits, climbing, swimming, craft workshops

HOST FAMILIES

The host families play a major role in the success of the language course – ensuring the students’ personal well-being and helping to improve language skills. The families are carefully selected, and will warmly welcome students into an informal family setting. There is plenty of opportunity for practising conversation and getting to know English family life. The course fees include full board and lodging (breakfast, a packed lunch during the week, and evening meal). For students to make best use of the course arrangements and have maximum opportunity to use their English during their stay, we prefer to place only one student with each family. However, we do also arrange shared accommodation for a limited number of students.

LOCATION

Hereford is an historic cathedral city and market centre, offering excellent facilities for shopping, entertainment and sport. It lies in the heart of the beautiful Wye Valley (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and is ideally located for a wide range of outdoor activities. Hereford is approximately 3 hours’ drive from Heathrow Airport (1.5 hours from Birmingham) and is situated close to the Welsh border with its mountains and historic castles.
The school is just 10 km from Hereford in a small village surrounded by green hills and beautiful countryside.
